There was a bad hailstorm in the SIUE area last night.

There's an email discussion thread going at work about student engagement in the midst of everything going on. One professor estimated that as many as 80% of their students had not checked back in on class since Spring Break. Dominic reported that today's daily directors' briefing was cancelled, and that daily briefings may discontinue now that things are settling into a routine.

The teachers and staff of New Baden Elementary drove through town parade-style, street-by-street, waving at their homebound students while honking horns. Several of them called out to Olivia by name and waved as Olivia, Amanda, Candy, and I waved from the porch. Ms. Segelhorst threw a green beaded necklace into the yard, saying that her daughter (who was in the passenger seat) wanted Olivia to have it.

Things are getting bad in New York. The governor is begging for federal assistance. Doctors and nurses are wearing trash bags.

Olivia is fever-free but has a lingering cough. She wanted to lay down after doing her schoolwork in the morning, saying she was tired. Later in the afternoon, she and I took a walk around the neighborhood; she rode on her scooter while I walked behind. She wanted to ride by the cemetery and I took some photos of her there. Some of the flowers had been blown off the headstones and she insisted on putting these back. On our walk back to the house, she picked dandelions, which she put in water once we got back inside the house.

Amanda made a great dinner of the leftover bratwurst and sauerkraut from last night with Brussels sprouts. After dinner, Olivia and I played outside for a while. She had the most fun with tennis.
